Where to go Ice Skating in Vienna – Ice Rinks in Vienna, Austria (Full List + Tips!)

Vienna in the winter is absolutely magical. Christmas markets, fairy lights, festive decorations.. and ice skating rinks!

If you’re anything like me, then you know this excitement when you finally get to go ice skating in the winter time.

There are a few places in Vienna where you can go ice skating, some of which are even open all year round!

Here is the full list of ice skating rinks in Vienna and some tips and information on where to.

WHERE TO GO ICE SKATING IN VIENNA?

Ice Skating in Vienna

Vienna Ice World

The biggest outdoor ice skating rink in Vienna opens its doors around mid January every year. The backdrop of the City Hall makes it the perfect place to enjoy the beauty of Vienna in the winter. The rink replaces the big Christmas market, which takes place at this exact spot every year up until Christmas day.

It is indeed the most spacious rink in all of Vienna, but it is also the most tourist-y one for sure.

Daily 10:00-22:00

 

Small Ice World

(part of Vienna Christmas World)

If you’re coming during the days before Christmas, you can still enjoy ice skating in front of the city hall. Right next to the Christmas market is where they build the first part of the rink, which opens mid November.

It’s only after New Year’s that they replace the Christmas market and create one huuuge rink for everyone to enjoy.

Wiener Eislauf-Verein

Another outdoor ice skating rink in Vienna, though quite smaller, is the so-called Wiener Eislaufverein. The place is beautiful – it’s surrounded by buildings, protecting it from the sometimes windy weather.

Engelmann Ice Rink 

The Engelmann ice rink is an artificial ice rink located in the 17th district. It was established over 100 years ago and it´s considered the the first open-air artificial ice rink in the world. It has been located on the roof of a building since the 1970s.

Erste Bank Arena

Erste Bank Arena is an indoor ice sports arena with 3 ice rinks. This is usually where the hockey games are happening and where hockey players and figure skaters are practicing.

Nonetheless, one of the rinks is open for the public, where you can skate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The arena is located quite outside the city centre. It can be reached via U1 metro line – you need to get off at Kagran metro station.

Die EisStadthalle

One of the few ice skating rinks that are open all year round is the EisStadthalle. Its’s a big indoor rink, located in the building of the Wiener Stadthalle – the biggest concert hall in Vienna.

The EisStadthalle is easily reachable by U6 metro line (station Stadthalle), or by trams.

Mo – Fr, 9:30 – 14:45
Sa, 10:00 – 19:00
Su, 10:00 – 16:45

Ice Party in the summer: every Saturday from 20:00 till 22:45

 

Eisring Süd

Last but not least, in the 10th district you can find a small outdoor and indoor ice skating rink. In the winter you can skate outside, whereas in the summer this is only possible inside.

Attention! The Eisring Süd is currently closed due to renovations! Planned opening time: Spring 2020
